PoppyDesk doesn't collect, store or share any information about you. There are no accounts, no analytics, no ads and no tracking, and there's no PoppyDesk server for anything to go to.
What stays on your Mac
Everything PoppyDesk keeps is stored only on your Mac, in ~/Library/Application Support/PoppyDesk and PoppyDesk's preferences:
- Your clipboard history and pins, if Clipboard History is on. Copies marked as passwords by password managers are never kept.
- Files, pictures and text you put on the notch shelf.
- Your settings, and a menu bar picture if you choose one.
Deleting PoppyDesk and that folder removes all of it.
Permissions
macOS asks you before PoppyDesk can use any of these, and only when you first use something that needs it:
- Camera: shows you to yourself in the notch, live, when you click the camera widget. It turns off when the notch closes. Nothing is recorded or saved.
- Calendars: reads your events to show them in the notch. They aren't copied anywhere.
- Audio recording: lets the Sound mixer change each app's volume, and the notch's equalizer follow the music. The sound is processed as it plays and is never recorded or saved.
- Accessibility: pastes what you pick from the clipboard, tidies the menu bar and, if you turn on Look active in Keep Awake, keeps the screen from locking.
- Paste from other apps: lets Clipboard History see what you copy elsewhere.
- Automation: asks Finder to move files you cut, and Music or Spotify what's playing if the system can't tell.
When PoppyDesk goes online
- Updates: about once a day, PoppyDesk downloads a short list of versions from this website, which is hosted by GitHub Pages, and downloads updates from GitHub. Like any website, GitHub sees your IP address; PoppyDesk sends nothing else. You can turn automatic checks off in Settings → About.
- Album covers: when Spotify is playing, PoppyDesk may download the cover from Spotify's servers, from the address Spotify gives it.
- Feedback: Report a Problem and Suggest an Idea open a form on GitHub in your browser, with your PoppyDesk and macOS versions filled in. Nothing is sent until you submit it, and what you submit there is public.
Changes
If this ever changes, this page will say so before the version that changes it.
